A penny on the ground
Should I stop and pick it up?
No, it’s just a superstitious notion
That will bless me with good luck.
I ponder for a moment
Is it really worth my time?
If only it were a dollar, quarter, nickel,
Or even a single dime.
No, I’ll just walk on by
For I have better things to do
It’s just a single penny
To make some cents, I’ll need two
Then I pause, and think again
This coin IS worth my time
I’ll quickly snatch it up
And wipe away the grime
So I reach down low
Retrieve it from the dust
Then suddenly I’m reminded of the words:
"In GOD WE TRUST”
A Penny On The Ground
